DJ Competition Rules and Guidelines

 

1. Eligibility

• Participants must be at least 21+ years old.

• The competition is open to both amateur and professional DJs.

• Each participant must register in advance, try out  ( January 14-15)  and provide all required details via website 

  • All rules to qualify below: 

    - Once officially signed up for tryouts, each DJ is required to post the official event flyer on their Instagram account.

    - The flyer must remain posted on the DJ’s Instagram until the round winners are officially announced.

- Tagging the official competition Instagram handle (e.g., @name) and using the official hashtag #name is mandatory.

- Photo of Dj, City Representing , years of experience,  instagram handle  must be sent in at tryout signup 

 

2. Competition Format

• Performance Time: Each DJ will have a total of 6 minutes to perform their set.

If you go over that time , you are disqualified . 

• Set-Up Time: DJs will have 5 minutes before their set to set up and test equipment.

 

3. Judging Criteria: DJs will be evaluated based on the following:

Technical Ability 

Originality: Unique style, remixes, and live creativity.

Transitions and Mixing Skills: Seamlessness, transitions, and technical execution.

Crowd engagement and control : Energy and engagement with the audience.

BONUS SECTION: Wow factor , Stage presence, innovative techniques 

 

4. Equipment

• Provided Gear: Standard DJ equipment will be available at the venue.

• Personal Equipment: DJs may bring their own controllers, laptops, or external devices.

• DJs must notify organizers in advance if personal gear will be used.

• All music must be pre-loaded and ready for performance.

 

4. Music Requirements

The competition will consist of four rounds, each with a specific theme:

• 1st Round: R&B, Neo-Soul, Funk

• 2nd Round: Reggae, Afro Beats

• 3rd Round: Hip-Hop Freestyle

• 4th Round: Surprise Theme (announced on the day of the event)

• DJs must not exceed the 20-minute performance limit—a penalty will apply for overages.

 

5. Conduct

• All participants must maintain professional and respectful behavior at all times.

• Use of offensive language, inappropriate gestures, or disrespectful conduct will result in immediate disqualification.

• Failure to adhere to time limits or guidelines may lead to deductions or disqualification.

 

6. Prizes

• 1st Place Winner:

• $2,000 Cash Prize

• Jack Daniel’s Letterman Jacket

• Trophy and Bragging Rights

• Audience Choice Award:

• Awarded for best crowd engagement.

 

7. General Rules

• Participants must arrive 30 minutes before the competition starts.

• Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be disputed.

• Event organizers reserve the right to modify rules at any time for the benefit of the competition.
